Steadmans has agreed to sponsor the second Farm and Agricultural Buildings (FAB) awards, which are being run by the Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA) next year.

The FAB awards recognise excellence in farm buildings and reward contractors and clients who have taken the time and effort to ensure their new structures are sympathetic to, and complement, the local landscape. They must have achieved this while ensuring they are fit for purpose and have been designed with sustainability in mind.

RIDBA is now inviting entries for the awards, which aim to prove that farm buildings are capable of delivering much more than simply a roof over farm animals’ heads, crops or machinery. As well as the overall first, second and third prizes, there will be awards for farm buildings below and above 250 square metres, those that have been changed for diversification use, equestrian structures and the most the unusual building, among other categories.

All of the entries need to be working buildings and must have been completed between April 2013 and December 2014, in most cases. They must also have been supplied by RIDBA corporate members, though there is a single category for the best structure built by a non-member.

The entry deadline is December 31 this year and winners will be announced at a presentation dinner in York next April. For more information about the FAB awards, visit the RIDBA website.

David Henderson, commercial development and marketing manager, Steadmans, said: “We are thrilled to be sponsoring the 2015 FAB awards, which is the UK’s only scheme that recognises quality agricultural buildings. We have been a corporate member of RIDBA for a number of years, so this venture deepens a long-standing relationship with RIDBA of which we are very proud.”

RIDBA pursues the common aims of those involved in high quality rural and industrial construction, in areas including good practice, health, safety and new legislation. It has a wide membership base that represents contractors, designers, surveyors and manufacturers.

Tony Hutchinson, national secretary, RIDBA, said: “We have greatly valued the support provided by Steadmans over the years and are delighted that, following the success of the 2013 FAB Awards, they have agreed to be a sponsor for the 2015 scheme.”

Steadmans and RIDBA have worked together on many other events. For example, the company hosted one of the association’s meetings at its factory in Carlisle and provided a guided tour of the single skin and composite panel production lines. In addition, Steadmans’ Alan Quarmby is a valued committee member of RIDBA’s Yorkshire branch, as well as a national council member.
