Steadmans environmentally friendly

The need to manage the impact that our business and processes have on the environment has never been more important. SIG plc, our parent company, are fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint; the achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard in 2010 is evidence of our environmentally friendly carbon credentials, and we have ambitious plans to further enhance our status as a Low Carbon Business.

Locally, we believe we have a responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the communities we live in. We are committed to providing a clean, safe and environmentally friendly local business.

Steadmans will:

  • Meet or exceed national and local environmental and health regulations as well as regulations covering the construction industry
  • Routinely incorporate an assessment of health and environmental impacts in decision making
  • Work with customers and suppliers to ensure products entering and leaving Steadmans’ sites are transported and processed in environmentally friendly ways
  • Be open and frank with the communities within which we operate

Sustainability

Developing sustainable construction methods presents a challenge to the whole construction industry. Our main raw material, steel, is eminently recyclable: 85 – 90% of steel from demolition goes for re-use and 40% of steel used in new construction has been recycled.

By using modern machinery and upgrading our facilities we are continually reducing the impact of our products on the environment, and improving their contribution to the long-term performance of buildings.

Locally we recycle our waste materials in a responsible manner and attempt to be environmentally friendly wherever we can.
